Worcester Mass.,– Seeking to modernize and centralize its administrative and student services, Worcester State College has begun a full gut renovation of its 63,000 square foot, administrative and student services building.

The college chose Boston-based architectural firm, Miller Dyer Spears to craft the transformation of the circa 1933 building. The project incorporates sustainable design practices, and was designed to meet LEED Plus criteria.

W.T. Rich Company, Inc. (Newton, MA) is scheduled to complete the project construction in May 2009. The 3-story building will face the center of the campus, converting the “back” of the building into a new accessible front door. The first floor will become the main public floor and accommodate student service functions such as the registrar, bursar and financial aid. A two story atrium will connect this level to the floor above where the theatre entrance, admissions office, president’s office and development office are located. The third floor will be home to other core administrative functions. A new addition behind the theatre wing will provide a stair and elevator connecting to the theatre support spaces on the level below.

Sunshine Sign Company (North Grafton, MA) was chosen to provide identity, wayfinding and regulatory signage for the new administrative and student services center. “Sunshine has been our vendor of choice for campus signage for more than 15 years”, states Peter Fenuccio, director of Facilities Projects. “We are confident that they will come through for us with the normal exceptional service and quality product”.

The Princeton Review awarded Worcester State College its “Best Northeastern College” designation in 2007.
